Food Survival
Millions Of Preppers Prepare For Food Survival
Each day, millions of preppers prepare for food survival due to a global food crisis caused in part by rising oil prices and climate change.
Food survival is a new term, a term that is heard more and more in first world countries such as the United States. Each day, hundreds of people join the millions of Americans already growing their own food in preparation for what many believe is an inevitable change to our way of life.
Food preppers as they are called, are part of a rapidly growing movement that believes in self-sufficiency above all else; growing, freezing, drying, canning and storing enough food for as long as 10 years or more.
The survivalist movement is no longer the domain of a few fringe hippie types from the 1960’s. The movement boasts people from all walks of life including business professionals, housewives, business owners, farmers (the first notable American survivalists) and religious groups like the Mormon Church, which encourages its members to stockpile at least 1 year's supply of food in the event of some natural or manmade disaster. A modern day food crisis can be triggered by any number of events.
Millions Of Preppers Prepare For The Worst
Food Survival And Oil Prices
Just a few short years ago the world was on the brink of a breakdown in the global food supply system caused by the rapid rise in the price of oil. As oil topped $110 per barrel, food prices doubled almost overnight in many parts of the world. In fact, the food riots that triggered the Arab Spring began just one week after food prices quadrupled.
Our entire global food system runs on oil. Oil operates farm machinery, is used to make our fertilizers, feeds our animals, and preserves and packages our food. Without oil, supermarket shelves would be bare in a week. Many believe that we are at peak oil now, and prices will eventually rise well beyond $110 per barrel to a point where the global food system will fail. Globalists predict that within the next 5 to 10 years, people in the U.S. will be paying triple what they pay now for basic foodstuffs like bread, eggs and milk
Food Survival And Speculation
Speculation is at the heart of global food shortages and strife. Today, many of the largest banks invest money into food commodity markets rather than loaning to small businesses to create employment and build communities. Market driven speculation (greed) increases food prices, destabilizing the global food supply system.
Food Survival And Climate Change
Climate change has been a hot topic the past 10 years, questioned and debated; tossed around like a political football while it is clear that changes in global weather patterns is upon us. Whatever the cause, areas of the world that were dry are getting drier causing wide spread droughts and pressure on food production. Scientists have concluded that the drought in Texas is here to stay and will expand into neighboring states over the coming years.
Food survival was a term virtually unheard of just a few years ago, particularly in first world countries such as the United States. Each day, hundreds of people join the millions of Americans already growing their own food in preparation for what many believe is an inevitable change to our way of life.
What To Do?
Clearly, growing your own food at home is the key to surviving an economic or environmental disaster. It would be a stretch to say that a conventional garden would provide enough food to survive a year or more. A family of four would need at least an acre of land; perhaps twice that growing vegetables in rows. Many of us, particularly those of us who live in cities do not have the land space for this type of production. Fortunately, there is a new technology that grows an acre of food using 90% less space. One Crop Circle grows an acre of food in just 60 feet of space.
